A few years ago, "AI for business" meant a chatbot answering simple questions. Now the technology is shifting: AI doesn't just answer, it is starting to do tasks — checking stock, drafting quotes, scheduling customer follow-ups, even suggesting changes to ad budgets. This is what is often called an AI agent.
If an ordinary chatbot is a receptionist who answers questions, an AI agent is more like an assistant who can open systems and carry out work according to rules you set. To work, an agent needs access to business systems — ERP, CRM, calendar, email, or ad platforms — through secure integrations.
| Area | Example tasks | Systems needed |
|---|---|---|
| Customer service | Answering product questions, checking order status, taking complaints | CRM, product data, WhatsApp API |
| Sales | Qualifying prospects, drafting quotes, reminding follow-ups | CRM, price catalogue |
| Operations | Minimum-stock alerts, draft purchase orders to suppliers | Inventory & purchasing ERP |
| Finance | Matching transactions, reminding of due invoices | Finance ERP |
| Marketing | Creating ad creative variations, summarizing campaign performance | Ad platforms, CRM, dashboards |
An AI agent is only as good as the data it can access. If stock in the system is inaccurate, the agent will answer with wrong information — very confidently. So the most important preparation isn't choosing an AI, but:
Good automation doesn't mean handing everything to machines. Apply the human-in-the-loop principle:
Giving AI access to business systems means giving access to customer and financial data. Make sure there are access restrictions, activity logs, data encryption, and policies in line with Indonesia's Personal Data Protection Law. Avoid putting sensitive customer data into AI services without understanding how that data is stored and used.
In advertising, AI is already widely used to create creative variations, choose audiences, and set bids automatically. In future, AI agents will be increasingly able to summarize performance across channels — online, DOOH, airports, even broadcast — and recommend budget shifts. The key again is data: campaigns connected to the CRM and sales data give AI far more accurate signals than click counts alone.
